In a shocking development that has rocked Guwahati, Assam, police have arrested Dipali Rajbongshi, a clinic worker, and her partner Jitumoni Haloi, a temporary employee at the Accountant General’s office, for the gruesome murder of Dipali’s 10-year-old son, Mrinmoy Barman.
The young boy, a Class V student at Navodaya Jatiya Vidyalaya, was found stuffed inside a black trolley suitcase near the Forest Department office at Basistha. A scrap collector discovered the body along a roadside between Basistha and Indira Nagar on Sunday morning.
Police confirmed the child’s identity through school records, and suspicion quickly fell upon the mother when inconsistencies emerged in her missing-persons report. Following intensive questioning, both Dipali and Jitumoni confessed to luring Mrinmoy with chocolates, murdering him near the scene, and dumping the body in the suitcase.
The couple transported Mrinmoy from their Jayanagar home to Basistha on a motorcycle. Authorities recovered the victim’s schoolbag near the site, and during a crime-scene reconstruction, the accused provided key details to the magistrate-led team.
The horrific nature of the crime—particularly the mother’s involvement—has sparked widespread outrage across Guwahati. Dipali and Jitumoni remain in custody at Basistha Police Station, with forensic analysis of the remains in progress.
