BRITSTOWN, South Africa — The Britstown General Detectives have secured a 10-year prison sentence for 27-year-old Mpumelelo Pieterson, who was convicted of burglary and theft at a soup kitchen in Mziwabantu on March 19, 2025.
According to court testimony, the complainant noticed that the soup kitchen door had been forcibly opened. Upon inspection, it was clear that a burglary had taken place. Authorities were notified immediately.
Investigations led to Pieterson’s arrest, and police recovered a stolen electric kettle. He was convicted of business burglary, sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, and declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Major General Nomana Mtukushe, Pixley Ka Seme District Commissioner, praised Detective Sergeant Phillip Setlogelo for his “thorough and meticulous investigation,” which led to the successful conviction.
She also highlighted the importance of strong community and police partnerships in tackling property-related crimes.
