The Andhra Pradesh Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested senior YSR Congress Party leader and MP Peddireddy Midhun Reddy on Saturday in connection with the massive Rs3,200 crore liquor scam during the previous YSRCP regime.

Reddy was grilled for nearly seven hours at the Crime Investigation Department (CID) office in Mangalagiri before his formal arrest, with family members notified soon after. He is scheduled to be presented before the Vijayawada court on Sunday.

Named accused number 4 in the case, Midhun Reddy was summoned after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea. The SIT questioned him extensively about alleged commission flows from liquor manufacturers through shell companies to beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, the SIT filed a 300-page preliminary chargesheet, supported by over 100 forensic reports and electronic evidence, detailing seizures of Rs62 crore worth of assets, statements from 268 witnesses, and remand reports of previous arrests.

Although the chargesheet mentions Reddy, his precise role remains unclear. The SIT indicated a more detailed chargesheet will be filed within 20 days as the probe enters a critical stage.

So far, 12 individuals have been arrested, including notable figures like former IT advisor Kasireddy Rajasekhar Reddy, Sajjala Sridhar Reddy of SPY Agro Industries, and others linked to the liquor procurement scandal.

Reddy has denied involvement, claiming the arrest is politically motivated. The Supreme Court dismissed his request for protection from arrest, paving the way for SIT action.
