A staff member of MP Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company, identified as Jitendra alias Jeet, was arrested on Thursday for stealing a mortgaged car using a duplicate key.

According to Maheshwar Police Station in-charge Jagdish Goyal, the stolen vehicle belonged to Kishore Gehlod from Pardeshipura, Indore, who had mortgaged the car to Golu Sharma due to a loan.

Bhopal resident Ishwar rented the car and parked it outside a hotel in Maheshwar. Upon learning this, Kishore provided the duplicate key to his brother-in-law Jitendra, who took the car and hid it in the electricity distribution company’s grid in Julwania, Barwani district.

Acting on Ishwar’s complaint and aided by CCTV footage, police recovered the vehicle and arrested Jitendra. Kishore had falsely informed Golu Sharma about the theft, expecting him to retrieve the car.
