A 16-year-old and his mother, Danielle Billups, 34, have been arrested in connection with the October 1, 2024, murder of Caleb Osborn in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The Wilmington Police Department (WPD) arrested the teen for first-degree murder after Osborn was found shot to death outside an apartment complex on Wilshire Boulevard. According to authorities, the teenager is charged with murder, while his mother, Billups, faces charges of accessory after the fact.
Investigators say that Billups was aware of her son’s involvement in Osborn’s murder and helped cover it up. She is accused of throwing the gun used in the crime into the Cape Fear River. During a court appearance on March 21, Assistant District Attorney Barrett Temple confirmed that the firearm Billups discarded matched the one used to kill Osborn.
Billups is currently being held on a $75,000 bond. Authorities have not released any further information regarding the case. The Wilmington Police Department expressed condolences to Osborn’s family and friends as they continue to mourn his loss.
