Horseheads, N.Y. — Shari D. Degraw, 55, and Alexandria C. Degraw, 22, both of Horseheads, have been indicted on grand larceny and welfare fraud charges following an investigation into fraudulent SNAP (Food Stamp) benefit claims.

The Elmira City Court issued active felony arrest warrants for the two women in connection with their fraudulent filings with the Department of Social Services (DSS). Authorities allege that Shari D. Degraw submitted false paperwork to DSS, leading to her receiving $3,916 in SNAP benefits she was not eligible for. Similarly, Alexandria C. Degraw filed fraudulent documents, resulting in her receiving $4,292 in benefits to which she was not entitled.

Both women face charges of welfare fraud in the third degree and grand larceny in the third degree, both of which are classified as Class D felonies.

The case highlights the significant consequences of fraud in the public assistance system, and both Shari and Alexandria Degraw are set to face legal proceedings for their actions.
