Morganton, NC — 36-year-old Jabaris Rashawn Francis, of Bristol Creek Avenue in Morganton, was arrested on January 27 by Caldwell County Sheriff’s Officers on multiple charges, including trafficking fentanyl and methamphetamine. Francis also faces additional charges for maintaining a vehicle to distribute narcotics and several highway violations. In addition to the local charges, Francis is also wanted in McDowell County on warrants related to a kidnapping and assault case involving a female victim.
According to the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, Narcotics Agents from the I.C.E. Unit were conducting surveillance on a residence in Gamewell when they spotted Francis outside the home. Recognized as a wanted man, Francis was seen leaving the property in his 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. Agents followed him, coordinating with Sheriff’s deputies to initiate a traffic stop on Connelly Springs Road.
When officers attempted to stop Francis, he led them on a high-speed chase. The pursuit ended when Francis crashed his vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies quickly apprehended him near Conway Drive in Baton.
During the arrest, agents discovered a package in Francis’ possession containing approximately 260 grams of fentanyl and 70 grams of methamphetamine. Additionally, over $6,700 in cash was found inside his vehicle.
Francis was taken into custody and placed in the Caldwell Detention Center under a $1,055,000 secured bond. His court date was scheduled for January 28. Authorities continue to investigate his involvement in the trafficking of these dangerous substances.
