On Thursday, the Vigilance Establishment team arrested Manu Shankar, the assistant drug commissioner of the Moradabad Division, for accepting a bribe. Shankar demanded a bribe of Rs 35,000 from a complainant in exchange for issuing a license to open a new medical store.
After several requests, Shankar agreed to accept the bribe in two instalments: Rs 15,000 for the first payment and Rs 20,000 for the second. The complainant, suspecting foul play, reported the matter to the superintendent of police at the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Establishment.
Following a verification of the complaint, the Vigilance team arrested Shankar while he was accepting the first instalment of Rs 15,000 in cash at his office in Moradabad. Upon searching his premises, officials uncovered an additional Rs 1,80,000 in cash.
A case has been filed against Shankar under relevant sections of the law, and further legal proceedings are underway. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
