TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) – A New Albany man has been charged with auto theft following a stolen vehicle report earlier this month.

The Tupelo Police Department identified the suspect as Montrell Pegues, 31. The incident occurred on or shortly before August 15, when officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle on Carnation Street.

A few hours later, Oxford police located the missing vehicle, which led to Pegues’ arrest.

He is now facing formal charges in connection with the theft. Authorities have not released additional details about the recovery or whether Pegues remains in custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.
