Montell Red Bear Sentenced After Scottsbluff Police Chases

29-year-old gets jail time, 15-year license revocation

GERING, Neb. – A 29-year-old Gering man, Montell Red Bear, has been sentenced following a series of high-speed police chases through Scottsbluff in April.

Authorities say an officer first attempted to pull Red Bear over, aware that his license was suspended. However, Red Bear fled at speeds exceeding 50 mph through residential neighborhoods, forcing officers to call off the pursuit for safety reasons.

Two hours later, the suspect’s vehicle was spotted again. A second pursuit also ended prematurely due to similar dangerous driving behavior. During a third chase later that night, officers deployed stop sticks, which successfully disabled the vehicle after all four tires were flattened.

Red Bear was arrested and later sentenced in District Court to 365 days in jail and had his license revoked for 15 years. He also received an additional 180-day sentence related to a separate jailhouse fight.
