LIBERTY COUNTY, Mont. — A Montana woman was charged on May 10 with attempted deliberate homicide after allegedly plotting to kill her stepmother.
Rachelle Fenger’s sister alerted authorities after Fenger requested a family meeting during which she described a detailed plan to suffocate her stepmother while she slept in her home in Chester.
Court documents reveal Fenger intended to wait inside the home until she heard her stepmother snoring, then use a pillow to suffocate her. To conceal the crime, Fenger told her sister she would wear shoes belonging to her ex-husband and “trounce through the snow,” attempting to mislead investigators.
During the meeting, Fenger also asked for the key to her stepmother’s house. Her sister refused and promptly notified law enforcement.
Undersheriff Kyle Heppner’s investigation uncovered multiple threats Fenger made against her stepmother, related to the death of Fenger’s father and inheritance disputes.
A search of Fenger’s residence revealed prescription medications not prescribed to her and a jar containing crystal methamphetamine.
Fenger now faces charges of attempted deliberate homicide and three counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
