Police in Thailand’s Amnat Charoen province have arrested a 42-year-old man following the death of his mother in what authorities say was a violent incident linked to drug abuse.

The incident occurred at around 8.30am on January 4 at a home in Na Wiang subdistrict, Senangkhanikhom district. Police were alerted after villagers reported a man behaving aggressively near a roadside while covered in blood.

Officers later identified the suspect as Mongkol, 42. The victim was his 71-year-old mother, identified as Soi, who was found deceased inside the family home.

According to preliminary police findings, the suspect allegedly attacked his mother during a sudden outburst. After the incident, he reportedly left the house, discarded the weapon in a nearby rice field, and walked through the village.

Villagers initially believed the man may have been involved in an accident when they saw him sitting by the roadside. However, his erratic behavior raised concerns, prompting them to contact the village headman and local authorities.

The village headman said an announcement was made over the community loudspeaker before officials and residents entered the house, where the woman’s body was discovered. Police were immediately notified.

Officers from Senangkhanikhom Police Station secured the scene, while forensic teams collected evidence, including blood samples and DNA. Authorities stated that the suspect has a history of drug abuse and had recently completed rehabilitation.

Mongkol was taken into custody and remains under police supervision as investigators continue questioning him. He has been charged with intentional homicide, and officials confirmed that drug testing will form part of the ongoing investigation.
