The Delhi Police Crime Branch has busted an alleged international drug trafficking network and arrested five men, seizing over 513kg of illegal psychotropic tablets valued at approximately Rs8 crore.

The investigation began on February 7 after intelligence inputs suggested that narcotics were being stored at Mehak Apartment in Madanpur Khadar. A Crime Branch team raided the premises and arrested 50-year-old Mohd Abid, recovering 14kg of tramadol hydrochloride tablets.

According to DCP (Crime) Vikram Singh, Abid disclosed that he had sourced the drugs from his son-in-law, Javed Khan, who was subsequently taken into custody. Further investigation led police to arrest additional associates, including an exporter, a warehouse owner in Samalkha, and a customs house staff member allegedly involved in facilitating the operation.

Police revealed that one of the accused, Vishnu Dutt Sharma, had arranged the export of a container declared as household goods. The shipment allegedly concealed 32 boxes of tramadol and other banned narcotics and was bound for the United Kingdom.

The Crime Branch coordinated with Customs officials to intercept the consignment at Mundra Port in Gujarat. On February 16, a joint operation involving Customs authorities, forensic teams, and drug inspectors resulted in the seizure of a massive quantity of psychotropic substances.

In total, authorities confiscated 513kg of narcotics, including tramadol, alprazolam, treken-100, zolpidem, and nitrazepam.

Police stated that Abid was previously engaged in the animal feed business before entering the illegal drug trade. Javed Khan allegedly handled documentation and customs clearance, while Sharma managed export operations primarily targeting the United Kingdom.

All accused have been arrested, and further investigations are underway to trace the broader network.
