Kavoor police arrested a man and seized ganja and MDMA valued at Rs 11.5 lakh after finding him acting suspiciously near Bangrakulur on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Rayees alias Mohammed Rayees Sheikh (28) from Bhatkal, Uttara Kannada district, was spotted during routine rounds while police were patrolling within the Kavoor police station limits. While proceeding from Kulur towards Bangrakulur via Kuloor, officers noticed him standing suspiciously beside a scooter. When approached for questioning, he attempted to flee but was detained.
Rayees allegedly confessed to being in illegal possession of ganja and MDMA, claiming he was waiting to sell the drugs in Mangaluru as instructed by an individual named Suhan from Kundapur.
Upon inspection, police recovered 560g of ganja (flowers, stems, buds, and seeds) with an estimated value of Rs 10,000, and 384g of MDMA valued at Rs 11.5 lakh. A mobile phone and scooter were also seized. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
