Margao Town Police arrested a man after allegedly catching him red-handed with suspected ganja during the early hours of January 14 at Comba, Margao.
Police identified the accused as Mohammed Ashraf Bikkannbai, a resident of Sukhubhat, Seraulim. During routine patrolling, police intercepted him and conducted a search, which led to the recovery of dry greenish plant material containing flowering and fruiting parts, suspected to be ganja.
The seized contraband was valued at approximately Rs96,500. Police officials said the accused was taken into custody on the spot, and the narcotics were seized following due legal procedure.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and whether the accused was involved in drug peddling activities.
