Mohammad Umer Shaikh Arrested for Scooter Theft in Mumbai

19-year-old held with stolen Honda Activa worth Rs80,000

The Mumbai Police have arrested Mohammad Umer Salim Shaikh, a 19-year-old, for allegedly stealing a Honda Activa scooter valued at Rs80,000.

The theft occurred between 10:00 pm on January 25, 2026, and 5:00 am on January 26, 2026, when the scooter belonging to Saurabh Shivmurti Verma was parked outside his residence. A case was registered at Kasturba Marg Police Station.

During the investigation, the Crime Detection Team reviewed footage from 40–50 CCTV cameras along the suspected escape route. The footage revealed that the accused approached the area on foot from Malwani. Based on intelligence inputs, police traced and detained him along with the stolen vehicle.

Further interrogation indicated that Shaikh was also involved in a prior mobile phone theft case, registered under Crime No. 646/2025 at Kasturba Marg Police Station, Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The recovered Honda Activa will be returned to the rightful owner, and the accused is under investigation for both theft cases.
