In a swift breakthrough, Jharkhand Police recovered gold jewellery worth Rs1.5 crore looted from a gold trader in East Singhbhum within 18 hours of the crime. The daring robbery occurred on Monday evening in Chakulia, targeting local jeweller Arun Nandi, also known as Khokan Nandi, the owner of Prapti Jewellers near Birsa Chowk.

As per routine, Nandi was returning home to Mistripada carrying 1.5 kg of gold ornaments and Rs50,000 cash when three bike-borne robbers ambushed him at his doorstep. One assailant held a knife to his neck while another pointed a pistol and snatched his bag. Despite his cries for help, the attackers escaped after threatening bystanders.

Acting promptly, Chakulia police under Station In-Charge Santosh Kumar alerted neighbouring stations in West Bengal. With coordination from Jambani police, two suspects — Mohammad Rafiq of Aurangabad (Bihar) and Niranjan Gaur of Jamshedpur — were arrested within hours. The stolen jewellery was fully recovered.

The accused have been brought back to Chakulia for interrogation, while a manhunt is underway to catch the third suspect who remains at large.
