Mohammad Izhan Held as Delhi Police Bust POS Fraud Gang

Gang Laundered Cyber Fraud Money via POS Withdrawals

The Delhi Police have dismantled a gang that allegedly laundered money from cyber frauds by using point-of-sale (POS) cash withdrawals. The operation involved converting stolen digital funds into physical cash through legitimate merchant terminals.

Three men, including the main account holder and two facilitators, have been arrested. Police have also recovered cash routed through a fuel station’s POS terminal used in the scheme.

According to officials, the gang operated across Delhi-NCR and was uncovered after an extensive technical and financial investigation. The first lead emerged on September 26, when investigators traced a suspicious account belonging to Mohammad Izhan, a resident of Jamia Nagar, which had received Rs6.8 lakh from defrauded funds.

“To nab him, police laid a trap, summoning Izhan near Choudhary Dairy in Jamia Nagar under the pretext of a bank verification call,” said DCP (Crime) Aditya Gautam. “During questioning, he confessed to creating fake accounts and executing fraudulent POS-based withdrawals under instructions from his absconding associates.”

Based on Izhan’s input, the police later arrested Manoj Kumar and Noor Hasan, both employees of an IOCL petrol pump in Sarita Vihar. Investigators revealed that the duo helped the gang convert digital fraud proceeds into cash by generating fake fuel sale transactions through the station’s POS terminal.

All three accused were arrested on October 24 after coordinated raids and detailed fund-trail analysis across multiple bank accounts and merchant devices.

Police believe the trio were part of a larger cybercrime network that funneled fraudulently obtained funds into the formal economy. Further investigations are underway to trace other members involved in the laundering chain.
