In a bizarre turn of events, six men, including recently released convicts, were arrested for robbing a grocery shop owner at gunpoint in Bindapur, Delhi, to fund their dream trip to a hill station.
The accused have been identified as:
Mohammad Sazid
Mohammad Shoeb
Mohammad Rashid
Mohammad Ayan
Mohammad Aftab
Mohammad Altab
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Kumar Singh, the police received a PCR call on November 12 reporting an armed robbery. Victim Mukesh, who owns a grocery shop in Mahavir Enclave, told police that he was robbed of Rs 50,000 near a government school in Bindapur at 7:25 PM while returning home on his scooter.
On November 17, acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap in E Block, Bindapur. Using CCTV footage and local intelligence, three suspects were apprehended. The police also recovered a country-made pistol and the motorcycle used in the robbery.
The arrested men confessed to the crime, revealing that they had planned the robbery due to financial constraints. Mohammad Aftab, who had recently completed a long prison sentence, reunited with his old associates. Driven by a desire to see snowfall, they decided to rob local shopkeepers to pay for the trip.
The group used inside information from a cloth shop owner in the same market to identify and target the grocery shop owner. Police also stated that the gang had attempted another robbery last month in Uttam Nagar.
All six men belong to the same locality and have prior criminal records. Further investigations are ongoing to trace any other crimes linked to the gang.
