In a major breakthrough against vehicle theft in Mohali, police have arrested six individuals during an intensive anti-crime drive focused on curbing rising theft cases. A total of 15 stolen vehicles were recovered, including 13 motorcycles, a scooty, and an Alto car.
The arrested accused have been identified as Kamalpreet Singh and Birbal Kumar, both 22 and residents of Mohali; Lovepreet Singh, 26, from Gharuan; Vivek Kumar, 19, from Hoshiarpur; and Harpreet Singh and Sahil, both 19 and residents of Kurali.
According to officials, the arrests were made in two separate cases from the Zirakpur and Kharar areas.
In the first case, the anti-narcotic cell apprehended one suspect after a vehicle theft complaint was lodged by Jaskaran Singh on November 11, 2025, at Zirakpur police station.
The second case involved the CIA staff, who arrested Kamalpreet Singh, alias Kamlu, and Birbal Kumar on November 13 following a crucial tip-off. Their interrogation led police to four additional suspects — Vivek, Harpreet, and Sahil, all detained near Gazipur Road, Zirakpur — along with another accused, bringing the total to six arrests.
Police stated that the gang had been involved in thefts across multiple locations including Zirakpur, Kharar, Mohali Court Complex, Daun village, and CP Mall in Sector 67.
The operation was supervised by SP Saurav Jindal (Investigation), SP Talwinder Singh, and DSP Rajan Parminder Singh. The arrests were executed under the leadership of inspector Harminder Singh, in-charge of CIA staff, and inspector Malkit Singh from the anti-narcotic cell, Mubarakpur.
