The police in Mohali have arrested Deepak Kumar Bhardwaj, manager of Jeshine Jewellery Showroom, for allegedly stealing gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs 1.28 crore on the night of November 1.
Authorities recovered the stolen items from the 47-year-old, including earrings, gold coins, silver rings, lockets, necklaces, and bangles. Additionally, a DVR, cash, and an EPABX machine were recovered from his possession. Bhardwaj, a resident of Sector 125, Sunny Enclave, Kharar, has been working as the showroom manager for four years and is currently under police remand.
The case was initially registered based on statements from Vikram Singh Sandhu of Signature Tower, Sector-66A, at the IT City Police Station, Mohali, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Sandhu reported that unknown criminals had executed a sensitive theft on November 2, stealing jewellery valued at approximately Rs 2 crore from the shop’s safe.
When the showroom reopened on Monday, authorities discovered the storage room had been tampered with, and the DVR of the security cameras was missing. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Bhardwaj and the recovery of the stolen valuables.
