In one of the largest drug busts of 2024, Mizoram Police seized Rs 32.54 crore worth of drugs and arrested two individuals, including a woman, for their involvement in drug trafficking. The seizure, which took place on July 12, involved methamphetamine tablets and heroin.
The operation was carried out by the Khawzawl and Champhai District Police, who conducted a joint operation and intercepted a Bolero vehicle traveling from Champhai to Aizawl. The vehicle was driven by Lalrintluanga (50), a resident of Champhai Vengthlang, who was transporting 115.55 kg of methamphetamine, contained in 106 packets. The total value of the seized drugs was Rs 32.11 crore.
Inspector General of Police (L&O), Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, confirmed that the drugs were in the form of Yaba tablets, commonly known as party pills. The police registered a case under the NDPS Act and have launched an investigation to uncover other links related to this drug trafficking operation.
In a separate operation on the same day, the Zokhawthar Police team seized 124 soap cases of heroin weighing 1.429 kg, with a market value of Rs 42.87 lakh. The vehicle involved was owned by Lalduhawmi (27), a resident of Dinthar Veng, Champhai. The authorities have registered a case and are investigating further connections within the drug trafficking network.
The investigation into both cases is ongoing, and authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the smuggling operations. This seizure comes after a series of major drug busts in Mizoram, as the police continue to intensify their efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
