Mizoram’s Excise and Narcotics Department, working jointly with Assam Rifles personnel, seized over 3 kilograms (30,100 tablets) of methamphetamine in two separate raids within 12 hours, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The first seizure took place at Zote-Bulfek Road in Champhai district near the Myanmar border at 7:30 PM on Wednesday. Authorities confiscated 1.1 kg (10,100 tablets) of meth and arrested 27-year-old Lalfakawma, a resident of Dampui village in Myanmar’s Chin state, currently living in Champhai town.

In a second operation early Thursday morning, officials seized 1.972 kg (20,000 tablets) of methamphetamine in the Tuikhuahtlang neighbourhood of Aizawl. Three men — Taj Uddin (22) and Mahub Hussain (21), both from Karimganj district in Assam, and Halal Uddin (21) from Tripura — were arrested in connection with this bust. A vehicle used to transport the drugs from Myanmar was also confiscated.

All four accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and were produced before local courts.

Meanwhile, Mizoram has recorded 42 drug-related deaths from January to July 24, 2025, including seven women. Since 1984, the state has seen 1,921 fatalities due to drug abuse, highlighting the ongoing challenges in combating narcotics in the region.
