AYDEN, N.C. — A teacher at Ayden Middle School, Miranda Tolliver, 27, of Stokes, has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses after allegedly striking a man with a hammer and threatening to kill him.
According to arrest warrants, Tolliver hit the victim in the leg and made verbal threats, stating, “I will kill you” and “I wish I hit you.”
She faces the following charges:
Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Communicating Threats
Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence
Pitt County Schools spokesperson Tom McClellan confirmed that Tolliver was hired by the district on August 17, 2022, and is now suspended from her position at Ayden Middle School pending the outcome of the investigation.
Additionally, East Carolina University confirmed that Tolliver is serving as a temporary, part-time instructor in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment, with a contract running from January 10 to May 15, 2025.
Tolliver was previously held at the Pitt County Jail but has since been released, according to court records obtained by News 12.
