WINSTON COUNTY – Mildred McDonald was arrested in late September 2024 after authorities uncovered a disturbing case of animal cruelty at a property on Old Clear Creek Road. The Winston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a tip and found over 30 animals, mostly dogs, in various stages of neglect and abuse.
An investigation revealed the property in a severe state of neglect, prompting law enforcement to execute a search warrant. The Birmingham Humane Society assisted in removing the animals from the site. While some were taken to shelters for rehoming, others had to be euthanized due to their poor condition.
After receiving a tip that McDonald was hiding in Adamsville, deputies located and arrested her. She has been charged with ten felony counts of animal cruelty in the first degree and was held on a $100,000 bond.
Winston County Sheriff Caleb Snoddy expressed his distress over the case, calling it one of the most severe instances of animal abuse he had encountered in his career. “The positive thing here is that these animals are no longer suffering,” he said.
