MIDLAND, Texas — A Midland woman, Tia Marie Sanders, 29, was arrested on June 1, 2025, after a detailed investigation revealed she had financially exploited an elderly couple she was hired to care for. Sanders now faces three counts of Credit/Debit Card Abuse of an Elderly Person, a serious third-degree felony.
The Midland Police Department launched the investigation after a family member reported unauthorized charges exceeding $2,500 on the couple’s credit cards. The elderly couple, both battling dementia and cancer, had trusted Sanders to assist them, but fraudulent purchases were made at Walmart, Grubhub, Uber Eats, and Steak Express after Sanders was dismissed.
Further inquiry uncovered that Sanders had a previous accusation of theft from another elderly client, though no charges were filed. Despite denying the allegations in a 2024 interview, subpoenaed records from various delivery apps confirmed Sanders placed multiple orders using the couple’s card from May to June 2024. The misuse ceased only after the card was reported and canceled.
After failing to contact Sanders multiple times in late 2024, authorities obtained an arrest warrant. She remains in custody at Midland County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
