CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — A Michigan man with a criminal background has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for shipping illegal drugs to Charleston’s West Side, federal prosecutors said Thursday.

Edward Keith Perkins, 31, of Detroit, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to attempted possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia.

In August 2024, Perkins shipped a package containing over 9 pounds of methamphetamine from California to a Virginia Street address in Charleston. Federal authorities apprehended Perkins when he attempted to retrieve the package in West Virginia.

Prosecutors said the package also contained about 50 grams of fentanyl, and an investigation revealed that additional shipments of illegal drugs had been sent to Tennessee.
