Michelle Y. Peters Charged with Poisoning Husband, Trial Set

by Amelia Crawford

LACLEDE CO., Mo. — Michelle Y. Peters, a woman from Lebanon, Missouri, has been formally charged with eight counts of first-degree assault and eight counts of armed criminal action. The charges stem from an incident in which she allegedly poisoned her husband’s soda with weed killer.

Prosecutors claim that Peters used Roundup weed killer to contaminate her husband’s two-liter bottles of Diet Mountain Dew. The husband, suspicious of his wife’s actions, installed a surveillance camera in their garage. In June, he reported to deputies that the footage showed Peters taking both the soda and a bottle of Roundup from the garage into the house before returning them later.

According to court documents, Peters admitted to deputies that she was upset with her husband for not appreciating the 50th birthday party she had thrown for him.

Peters pleaded not guilty to the charges on January 7, 2025. Her trial is set to begin on June 9, 2025.
