ROME, N.Y. — A 22-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were arrested for endangering the welfare of a two-year-old child after the child was found with severe injuries, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael J. Swisloski Jr., the child’s father, and Italia B. Gonzalez had custody of the child from June 6 to June 9. Upon the child’s return to his biological mother, extensive injuries were discovered on the child’s face, leg, head, and throat, prompting Wynn Hospital to notify the Child Advocacy Center.

The investigation concluded the injuries were consistent with child abuse, with some injuries deemed potentially life-threatening, especially those inside the child’s throat.

Swisloski and Gonzalez were arrested on August 19 and appeared in Rome City Court on September 10, charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Both were released on their own recognizance. An Order of Protection has been issued for the child, and supportive services have been offered through the Child Advocacy Center.
