A Durham, Missouri man, Michael Roy Johnson, 61, was arrested after stealing a vehicle in Lyon County and attempting to set it on fire, authorities reported.
Johnson faces multiple charges including driving under the influence, attempted arson, criminal deprivation of a motor vehicle, and criminal damage to property. Additional citations include driving while suspended, no vehicle registration, and no proof of insurance.
According to the complaint, Johnson, while intoxicated, stole a Nissan Armada and tried to ignite it by throwing a burning piece of paper into the backseat. The fire did not take hold, and the vehicle was unharmed.
Prosecutors also claim Johnson deliberately set fire to corn, causing nearly $1,000 in damage.
Johnson was arrested on September 13 and booked into the Lyon County Jail on a $2,500 bond. He is represented by attorney Paul Dean and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on October 1.
