PERSHING COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) — A Burning Man attendee was arrested early Monday morning after deputies say they found firearms and large quantities of drugs in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
At around 2:00 a.m., Pershing County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over a vehicle driven by Michael Olney in the Esplanade area of the Burning Man event due to a permit violation.
During a search of the car, deputies discovered:
Two firearms
A large amount of illicit drugs
Items consistent with drug sales and distribution
Authorities confirmed that Olney is a convicted felon, making his possession of the weapons illegal.
Olney now faces the following charges:
Two counts of prohibited person in possession of a firearm
Trafficking a controlled substance over 100 grams
Selling or transporting a controlled substance
Manufacturing or possessing a dangerous weapon
His bail was set at $92,500, and he remains in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
