COLUMBUS, OH — Former Ohio State football walk-on Michael Roen McCullough has been arrested and charged with felony strangulation following an alleged domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend.
According to reports from the New York Post and Columbus Dispatch, police responded to a domestic disturbance call on August 29 around 9 p.m. The alleged victim, identified as McCullough’s girlfriend, told officers the assault occurred earlier that morning during an argument in McCullough’s car.
Court documents reveal that McCullough allegedly broke her phone, punched her multiple times, and then grabbed her by the throat, pushing her against a window. The woman told police she lost consciousness during the incident and later awoke at home.
Police reported visible injuries including a black eye, cut, swollen lip, and bruising on her throat, consistent with her account.
McCullough, 26, is currently being held without bond in Franklin County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
McCullough, a Columbus native, played high school football at Worthington Kilbourne and joined Ohio State University as a walk-on long snapper from 2018 to 2020, though he never appeared in a game. Off the field, he was recognized for his academic excellence, earning multiple honors including Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Academic All-Big Ten, and OSU Scholar-Athlete awards.
The case remains under investigation.
