Michael Grzelak Charged in Caton Domestic Incident

Steuben County man faces multiple charges after dispute

CATON, NY — A Steuben County man was arrested following a domestic dispute that occurred in the early morning hours of June 22 at a residence on Fish Pond Road, according to New York State Police.

Troopers responded around 1:45 a.m. and determined that 57-year-old Michael J. Grzelak had caused property damage and issued verbal threats during the altercation. The incident unfolded in the presence of children, who, along with the victim, later met troopers outside the home.

Grzelak now faces a range of charges, including:

Criminal Contempt in the 1st Degree: Violation of an Order of Protection involving physical contact (Class E felony)

Aggravated Family Offense: Repeat offenses within five years (Class E felony)

Menacing in the 3rd Degree (Class B misdemeanor)

Two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class A misdemeanor)

Two counts of Criminal Contempt in the 2nd Degree: Disobeying a court order (Class A misdemeanor)

Following his arrest, Grzelak was taken to the Steuben County Jail for Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) proceedings.

The investigation is ongoing, and State Police are encouraging anyone with additional information to contact Troop E Headquarters.
