Michael A. Groch, 39, of Wellsburg, has been identified and charged with first-degree murder following a shooting in Brooke County on Friday.
The victim, 58-year-old Kerry Casto from Mingo Junction, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene. Groch was immediately taken into custody, processed, and arraigned by a Brooke County magistrate. He is currently held at the Northern Regional Jail.
Chief Deputy Douglas Mills of the Brooke County Sheriff’s Office stated that while preliminary information exists, the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
The Wellsburg and Follansbee police departments, West Virginia State Police Crime Scene Team, and Brooke-Hancock Drug Task Force assisted in the investigation, which is ongoing.
