Michael Brown, a 37-year-old landscaper from North Carolina, was arrested after throwing a large, unauthorized house party at a mansion while the homeowners were away on vacation, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Brown allegedly invited several hundred people to the property where he had previously done lawn maintenance and charged attendees an entry fee, which he kept. Deputies were called following multiple noise complaints and reports of traffic hazards caused by partygoers.
When authorities arrived, Brown initially claimed the house was his, then said it belonged to his grandparents before admitting he had no connection to the homeowners. The large crowd forced a heavy police presence to clear the property. Many guests left recklessly, leading to numerous traffic stops.
Officials reported property damage at the mansion and charged Brown with breaking and entering, second-degree trespassing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, injury to real property, and obtaining property by false pretenses.
Brown was released on a $10,000 bond but denied wrongdoing in an interview with WSOC, saying the party was a graduation celebration for his son and his son’s friends. He also denied that minors were served alcohol and stated he intends to host another party in the future.
