NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A 48-year-old man has been sentenced to up to 30 years in state prison after pleading guilty to the sexual abuse of his adopted daughter over a four-year period.
Michael Abel, of Northampton Township, was sentenced on Tuesday by Common Pleas Judge Stephen A. Corr following a guilty plea in June to the charges of:
Involuntary deviate sexual intercourse
Corruption of minors
Indecent assault
Abel received two consecutive prison sentences:
10 to 25 years for the first offense
8 months to 5 years for the second offense
In addition, Abel will be required to register as a Megan’s Law offender for life.
The charges stem from a child abuse report made to the Northampton Township Police Department on December 11, 2024, alleging multiple instances of sexual abuse against his adopted daughter. The victim, who was adopted from China in 2016, was 11 years old at the time the abuse was reported.
An investigation led by Detective Ryan Jumper revealed that between January 2021 and December 2024, Abel committed five separate acts of sexual abuse. The victim detailed the abuse during a forensic interview, leading to Abel’s arrest on January 9, 2025.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Davide E. O’Beirne and Assistant District Attorney Sara Salvo.
