SAN JOSE, Calif. — Two women have been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred last month in downtown San Jose, police announced Wednesday.
The incident happened in the early hours of July 20 near South Second Street and East San Fernando Street. Officers with the San Jose Police Department responded to the scene at 12:51 a.m. and found 22-year-old Raymond Orozco suffering from at least one stab wound. Officers immediately began life-saving efforts.
Medics transported Orozco to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities said the suspects had fled the scene before officers arrived. This incident marked San Jose’s 15th homicide of 2025.
Homicide detectives initially determined that Orozco had been involved in a physical altercation prior to the stabbing.
Following weeks of investigation, police identified Mercedes Rosales, 20, and Micaela Van, 18, both of San Jose, as the primary suspects. On Tuesday, detectives — working with undercover units and the Gang Violence Suppression Unit — arrested both women after securing arrest and search warrants for their homes.
Rosales was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder, while Van was booked as an accessory to murder.
