A Memphis man, Raffael Newman, has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting on Ridge Drive in the Hickory Hill area of Memphis, Tennessee. Police responded to the scene on Saturday at 8:55 p.m., where a male victim was found dead from a gunshot wound.
Newman, 44, has been charged with second-degree murder and theft of a firearm in connection with the shooting. Authorities have yet to reveal a motive behind the killing, and the investigation is ongoing.
This incident marks one of the latest homicides in the city. According to the Memphis Crime Analytics Dashboard, the city has experienced at least 100 homicides so far this year, a slight decrease from the 121 homicides recorded during the same period last year.
As of now, 89 of this year’s homicides have been classified as murders, with eight deemed justifiable, one labeled as negligent manslaughter, and two cases still pending investigation.
In April, MPD responded to 32 homicides and over 2,100 aggravated assaults, which represents a slight reduction compared to last year’s figures.
