COLUMBUS, GA — Melissa Lowe, 54, was arrested Wednesday for the second time in nearly three months on charges of impersonating a public official and theft by deception, according to the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Greg Countryman confirmed that Lowe was apprehended during a joint operation with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest stems from new felony charges that emerged after Lowe was released from jail in May, where she had been incarcerated for similar offenses.
Earlier this year, Lowe had been arrested on seven counts of unauthorized practice of law and three counts of impersonating a public officer or employee. These previous charges were related to her unlawful activities involving the unauthorized provision of legal services.
Lowe’s criminal history includes a 2017 conviction for filing fraudulent income tax returns while operating a tax business. She was sentenced to 24 months in prison for that offense.
Lowe is currently being held at the Muscogee County Jail as she awaits further legal proceedings.
