The district police arrested Niranjan Singh, a driver employed with the Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF), for allegedly stealing multiple bundles of electric wire from a hospital construction site in Gurugram’s Sector 44 earlier this month. Singh used a government-leased vehicle assigned to the Additional Commissioner of MCF to flee the scene.

The stolen wires were reported missing on July 8, leading to a case being registered at Sushant Lok police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police confirmed that the car used in the crime was a Maruti Ciaz leased to MCF but registered under Singh’s wife’s name. The vehicle has been seized from MCF headquarters.

Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar stated, “Niranjan Singh confessed to stealing several bundles of electric wires from the construction site and handing them over to an associate. Further interrogations are underway to identify others involved in the theft.”

Singh, a resident of Salempur Dhankar village in Agra district, Uttar Pradesh, was hired under the Haryana Skill Employment Corporation (HSEC) in November 2024 and posted as a driver for a senior MCF officer. Authorities are now investigating how an official vehicle was misused for criminal activities and probing if Singh was involved in similar offenses or misuse of government property.
