In one of Maharashtra’s largest drug operations this year, the Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) police seized cocaine worth over Rs22 crore in Thane district, arresting three individuals, including two foreign nationals, as reported by PTI.
The operation began on April 15 when MBVV police arrested Shabina Shaikh (42) and recovered 11.8 kg of cocaine from her, valued at Rs17.74 crore, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madan Ballal.
“The first arrest led us deeper into the supply chain,” ACP Ballal stated.
Interrogation of Shaikh revealed her supplier was a Nigerian national, Andy Ubabudike Onyinse (45), residing in Mira Road East. He was later arrested, and 2.608 kg of cocaine worth Rs3.9 crore was recovered from his possession.
Further investigation led to the arrest of a Cameroonian national, Christabel Enjei (32), residing in Vasai East. She was found with 433.2 grams of cocaine, valued at Rs64.98 lakh.
The operation has exposed what police believe to be a transnational drug supply chain operating in Mumbai’s extended suburbs, involving local and foreign operatives. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify other members of the network.
