The Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police have arrested Ramu alias Ramkesh Dudhnath Yadav, the main accused in the brutal murder of 25-year-old Ritesh Kawale, which occurred on February 5, 2024, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), MBVV, Madan Ballal, stated that while four persons linked to the case had already been arrested, the primary suspect had been successfully evading capture for over a year.

“Our investigation revealed that Ramu was hiding in various parts of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, frequently changing his appearance and avoiding mobile phone use to stay off the radar,” Ballal explained.

The breakthrough came when police received intelligence that Ramu was spotted in Ambernath, Thane district, where he was working as a porter under a false identity. To avoid detection, he had shaved off his hair, beard, and moustache.

Kawale was mistakenly attacked and killed by a group of men who thought he was a thief, according to police sources.

The case was registered under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC, and the police continue their investigation.
