Arkansas Mayor Christopher Franklin Arrested for Failing to File Taxes
HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. – Christopher Franklin, the mayor of Helena-West Helena, was arrested Tuesday following an investigation by the Arkansas State Police. Authorities say Franklin is facing four felony counts for failing to pay or file state tax returns over the past several years.
According to investigators, Franklin did not file tax returns for four out of the last five years. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop around 5 p.m. and transported to the St. Francis County Detention Center.
His bond was set at $100,000. Officials from the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office confirmed they are working with prosecutors on the case.
The arrest raises serious questions about financial accountability in public office and comes as Franklin continues to serve as mayor of the eastern Arkansas city.
