GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Mauricio A. Powless, a 19-year-old man from Green Bay, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Friday after being convicted for two separate child assault cases at a local hotel. Powless was found guilty of attempted first-degree sexual assault of a child and second-degree sexual assault of a child.
Two additional charges were dismissed but considered as part of a plea agreement. After serving his prison sentence, Powless will undergo 10 years of extended supervision and will be required to register as a sex offender.
The charges stem from incidents at the Tundra Lodge in Green Bay. On January 20, officers responded to a report that Powless had attempted to pull down a child’s pants and prevent her from exiting an elevator. The victim reported that while Powless did pull her pants down, he did not make further contact before running away.
While investigating this report, authorities received a second incident report that matched Powless’ description. Although officers attempted to locate him at the hotel, they were unsuccessful.
On January 25, a third report came in, describing an incident in which Powless allegedly approached a girl in an elevator, told her to “kiss me,” and touched her inappropriately. On January 26, officers located a vehicle linked to Powless and arrested him.
According to the criminal complaint, Powless admitted to the assaults during questioning and expressed remorse, though he stated he was unsure why he had acted in such a manner.
Friday’s sentencing concluded the criminal proceedings in this case, marking a moment of closure for the victims and the community.
