SOUTHBURY, Conn. — A 63-year-old Waterbury man, identified as Matthew Kimbrough, was arrested Friday after allegedly stealing more than $600 worth of steaks, ribs, salmon filets, and other food items from a Southbury grocery store, police said.
The incident occurred at the Shop Rite Supermarket located at 775 Main Street South. According to the Southbury Police Department, officers were called to the store around 2:45 p.m. on reports of an active larceny.
Police said Kimbrough attempted to flee the scene as a passenger in a vehicle, but was apprehended before getting away. Officers allegedly recovered over $600 in stolen meat and seafood from his possession.
Kimbrough was charged with fifth-degree larceny and released on a $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on June 3.
Authorities have not released any additional details, and the investigation remains open.
