RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. — Matthew Kidd, 35, was arrested Friday at a hotel in Brandon by the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office after investigators received a tip on his location. He is now being held without bond.

Kidd was identified as a person of interest in the homicide of William Morris, which occurred on Wednesday. However, officials stated there was initially insufficient evidence to charge him until Thursday, when an arrest warrant was issued. Kidd was listed as wanted until his capture Friday morning.

In addition to the Morris case, Kidd is also suspected in a home invasion murder that took place Thursday evening within Brandon city limits. Christian Storey was fatally shot during the incident.

Authorities have not yet determined the motives behind either killing.

Kidd faces two counts of capital murder, two counts of home invasion, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

A county judge denied Kidd bond on Friday and scheduled a bond hearing for September 9.

The Rankin County Sheriff also noted that Kidd is a convicted felon in Alabama, where he faces additional charges including theft, felony fleeing, and potentially possession of a firearm by a felon.
