A Warren County man, Matthew Hudson Barnes, 28, has been charged with felony child abuse following an investigation into injuries sustained by a 4-month-old child.
On December 13, 2024, staff at River Region Emergency Room notified authorities about the infant, who had suffered multiple broken ribs. The child was transferred to a Jackson medical facility for further treatment.
Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace stated that Lt. Stacy Rollison of the sheriff’s department was involved in the investigation. On December 16, Barnes turned himself in to authorities at 10 a.m.. He was formally charged and appeared before Judge James Jefferson, who set his bond at $20,000.
Barnes has been ordered to have no contact with the victim, and the Department of Child Protection Services has placed the child into protective care. The case will proceed to the Warren County Grand Jury for further action.
