RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A man has been arrested and charged with multiple crimes, including first-degree burglary, following a home invasion incident involving an elderly victim in Ellenboro.
According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), deputies responded to a 911 call in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 10. The caller, an elderly resident, reported that someone was banging on their door and trying to break in.
Moments later, the suspect allegedly forced his way into the home. Deputies arrived within minutes and arrested the suspect without further incident.
The individual was identified as Mathew Todd Stacey, who now faces several charges:
First-degree burglary
Larceny after breaking and entering
Injury to property
Fortunately, the victim was not physically harmed during the incident.
The sheriff’s office stated that Stacey was held without bond because he was already out on pretrial release at the time of the incident.
The RCSO shared the arrest details in a Facebook post, emphasizing the quick response that helped ensure the resident’s safety.
