Marwuy Camacho Arrested in Deadly Salinas Triple Shooting
SALINAS, Calif. — Authorities have arrested 18-year-old Marwuy Camacho in connection with a triple shooting that left two people dead and one injured last weekend in Salinas. Police suspect the incident was gang-related.
Camacho was taken into custody Wednesday night and charged with the murders of 20-year-old Jesus Rosales and 17-year-old Edgar Gomez, as well as the attempted murder of another 17-year-old victim.
According to Salinas Police, the shooting occurred Friday night outside a home in the 300 block of Cross Avenue, where Camacho reportedly exchanged words with the victims before opening fire.
Salinas Police Chief Carlos Acosta said the community can now breathe a sigh of relief.
“Extremely grateful that this individual who committed these acts and took two innocent lives away from our community is now in custody.”
Although the exact motive is still under investigation, preliminary evidence points to gang motivation. Camacho, who has had prior run-ins with law enforcement, is believed to have acted on behalf of a local street gang.
He has been booked on two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and gang enhancements, and is being held without bail.
Police credited neighborhood surveillance footage and community cooperation in helping to identify and capture Camacho.
Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue emphasized the role of community engagement:
“This result reflects years of growing commitment to community engagement. It’s a vital part of law enforcement success.”
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to search for additional suspects, including the getaway driver.
