Marvin Murphy, 48, of Camden, Pennsylvania, was convicted in federal court for conspiring to distribute cocaine as part of a coordinated drug trafficking operation that involved over $300,000 in cash and undercover agents. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey announced the conviction on Monday.
Murphy, along with Carl Lee Holloway, Lavinston Lamar, and others, conspired between June and July 2021 to distribute and possess cocaine with the intent to sell it. According to court documents, the operation began when Holloway met with an undercover agent in San Diego on June 23, 2021. Holloway arranged for the delivery of at least 10 kilograms of cocaine to New Jersey.
Following that meeting, Murphy and his co-conspirators continued to coordinate the drug deal over the following weeks. On July 13, 2021, Murphy, Holloway, and Lamar each arrived at a hotel in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, separately, carrying bags filled with more than $340,000 in cash. The men briefly inspected a kilogram of cocaine provided by the undercover agents before being arrested inside the hotel room.
Murphy now faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, along with a fine of up to $1 million. Sentencing is set for July 17, 2025.
